Magic Glass Privacy Policy
What Magic Glass does
Magic Glass produces subtitle translations for video. The website lets you upload a video or paste a video link and receive translated subtitles. The Chrome extension shows Magic Glass subtitles as an overlay on Netflix, Crunchyroll, and Disney+ while you watch, and can send a page's video URL to Magic Glass for translation.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your username and email address when you sign in, and a session token stored as a cookie.
- Content you submit. Videos, video links, subtitle files, and edits you make in the editor. We process this content to produce subtitles and store it in your library until you delete it.
- Subtitle tracks from streaming sites. When you use the extension on a supported streaming site, it reads the subtitle track and playback position of the video you are watching and sends the subtitle text to Magic Glass for translation. It does not capture video or audio.
- Usage data. Request logs (IP address, timestamps, pages requested) used to operate and secure the service and measure usage in aggregate.
How the extension uses browser permissions
- cookies: reads only the Magic Glass sign-in cookie on magicglass.ai so the extension can act as you. It never reads cookies from any other site.
- storage: remembers your language preferences and pending jobs locally in your browser.
- activeTab and scripting: injects the subtitle overlay into the video page you have open when you ask for it.
- alarms: periodically checks whether a translation you requested has finished.
- Site access (netflix.com, crunchyroll.com, disneyplus.com and their media domains, magicglass.ai): needed to read the subtitle track and draw the overlay on those sites, and to talk to the Magic Glass service.
The extension does not collect browsing history, does not track you across sites, and does not show ads.
Third-party services
Subtitle text is sent to third-party speech and language model providers (currently ElevenLabs, OpenAI, and Anthropic) solely to produce transcriptions and translations. Videos are stored on Google Cloud. We do not sell your data.
Sharing
If you create a share link, anyone with the link can view that video and its subtitles. Otherwise your library is private to your account.
Retention and deletion
Your content stays in your library until you delete it. Deleted items are held in trash briefly and then purged. To delete your account and all associated data, email austinchendo@gmail.com.
